Itinerary

Tuesday - Bangkok
Depart Bangkok in the afternoon. Relax in one of the bar cars, saloon car or in the privacy of your comfortable compartment. Afternoon tea is served as you travel into Northeastern Thailand. Later that evening enjoy dinner in one of the beautiful restaurant cars. Retire to your compartment, transformed into a cosy bedroom by your steward.


Wednesday - Hin Dat, Khao Yai
After breakfast in your compartment, the train arrives at Hin Dat. Disembark for a tour to Phimai, a World Heritage Site and one of the most important Khmer monuments in Thailand. Return to the E&O for lunch as you continue your journey on to Khao Yai. Here you visit local vineyards and have the opportunity to taste wines that are being called “New Latitude Wines”. Reboard the train in the early evening in time to prepare for dinner. Overnight on board.


Thursday – Nong Khai, Vientiane
The E&O arrives in Nong Khai after breakfast. A coach transfers you to Vientiane across the Mekong via the Friendship Bridge. (Special arrangements have been made for E&O guests to clear Lao Immigration.) Passengers leaving E&O in Vientiane should arrange for their local representative to meet them at Lao Immigration at the Friendship Bridge.

Itinerary

Day 1 - OVERNIGHT FLIGHT
Fly from London Heathrow to Bangkok.

Day 2 - BANGKOK
Arrive in Bangkok, stay for two nights at The Peninsula. Thailand's history lives on in a city teeming with monks, river barges, colourful markets and, of course, a superb range of restaurants offering the very best in Thai cuisine.

Day 3 - BANGKOK
This morning enjoy a visit to the Grand Palace, before an afternoon at leisure.

Days 4 & 5 - EASTERN & ORIENTAL EXPRESS
Afternoon departure on the E&O (Pullman Superior) for Vientiane with two nights and two gastronomic dinners aboard the E&O.

Day 6 - LUANG PRABANG
Morning arrival in Nong Khai and cross to Laos for a short orientation tour. Vientiane, the capital of Laos, is a city of contrasts, where French colonial architecture sits alongside gilded Asian temples.

At the end of the tour transfer to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang. Stay for three nights at La Résidence Phou Vao including dinner each evening.


Days 7 & 8 - LUANG PRABANG
Enjoy this beautiful town with its French colonial architecture, impressive temples and colourful markets. Two full days of sightseeing are included.


Days 9 & 10 - OVERNIGHT FLIGHT
Transfer to the airport and your onward flight to London via Bangkok. Arrive at London Heathrow on Day 10.

Day 3: Bangkok
Day 3 Enjoy a morning visit to the Prasart Museum to view a stunning collection of Asian and European objets d'art, which have been privately collected over many years.

Day 4: La Residence Phou Vao, Luang Prabang, Laos
Fly this morning to Luang Prabang in Laos for three nights at La Résidence Phou Vao (Garden View)—the remainder of the day is at leisure, before dinner at the hotel.


Day 5 & 6: La Residence Phou Vao, Luang Prabang, Laos
Spend two days exploring this wonderful city and its environs, including a journey on the Mekong river to the Pak Ou caves.


Day 7: Vientiane, Laos
Continue your tour with a flight to Vientiane, the capital city, for an overnight stay at the Settha Palace Hotel. A sightseeing tour of the city is included during your stay.


Day 8: Eastern & Oriental Express
During the afternoon, transfer across the Friendship Bridge to Thailand, where the E&O awaits for the overnight journey to Bangkok. Enjoy dinner and overnight in your Pullman Superior compartment.

Day 9: La Residence d'Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Arrive in Bangkok this morning and fly on to Siem Reap and the fabled Temples of Angkor. Stay for three nights, including all meals, at La Résidence d'Angkor (Garden View Deluxe).


Day 10 & 11: La Residence d'Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Two fabulous days visiting one of the world's most important archaeological sites.


Days 12 & 13: Departure

Return by air to Bangkok and on to London, arriving on Day 13.
